When Romano and Maria arrived here in the early 70s with their
large family, Colle Moro was just a bare hill where a family of sharecroppers
tilled the soil for their own support. Now it is a garden-farm, peaceful and green, thanks to years of indefatigable work. Hundreds of trees were planted and cared for: apple trees, pear trees, cherry trees, citrus trees, carobs, almonds, walnut, kiwi, figtrees, Indian figs, kiwi, pomegranates, to delight our guests’ taste…and pine trees, holm oaks, firs, citrons, cypresses, agaves, mimosas, magnolias, palm trees, capers, bouganvilleas, iris, orchids, roses, forsythias, sowbreads, pelargoniums, hawthorns, hollies to please their eyes.

Respect, rediscovery and improvement of the traditional autochthonous cultivating varieties are what the management of the farm “ Azienda Agricola Ampolo Rella” is based upon. And we aim to be always very attentive and up-to-date to what technology and research can do to help us reach our goals. This is the reason for the big work that has been undertaken to install a “sub-irrigation” system which can grant a better care of crops, minor use of human resources and saving water, so improving the products quality and being eco-friendly.
The farm’s main production is that of extra virgin olive oil, and olive trees were planted first since the beginning. Over the years we specialized more and more in the olive tree cultivation. Our "Ojie di 'Live'" (Olive oil in local dialect), is an extra-virgin DOP olive oil and we make it in its main local varieties: Dritta, Leccino e Toccolana. It has been awarded a medal and a “Diploma di Gran Menzione” (certificate of special mention) in 2006 at CIBUS – International Contest of Association of Olive Oil Makers, so ranking among the 48 best olive oils in the world. In addition to the traditional production we can now offer a line of monoculture extra-virgin oils, i.e. olive oils made only from one variety of olives. Among them the “Cipressino” has been especially appreciated for its particular quality and nuances.
From our orchards we get a quality production for home use only. Fresh fruit is reserved for our B&B guests and the excess is used for homemade jams, absolutely genuine and preservative-free. Sugar too is reduced to a minimum, or totally, like in the "Scrucchijata“ jam, made entirely from Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes.
Our “Cotognata“ ( candied quince) too is prepared following an old receipt.
Either for an holiday or a business travel break, a stay in Colle Moro Resort can be a pleasant experience to enjoy the warmth and flavours of a tradition close to people and Nature.
